Value Of Branded Merch For Sports Teams
Jun 2, 2021
Sports teams can promote themselves and make money with custom merchandise.
The Rocket City Trash Pandas are the Anaheim Angels’ Double-A affiliate, and before the team played even an inning of baseball, it sold $4 million of branded merch.
Ralph Nelson, the team’s former president and CEO, spoke with AL.com about how people who may not even be fans of the team or of the sport are buying items with the Trash Pandas logo.
This is just one example of how teams — such as rec leagues, co-ed teams, social clubs, semi-pro sports teams and even booster clubs — can promote themselves and make needed money with promotional products.
For instance, stadium cups can be part of concessions stands, incentivizing attendees to stay hydrated and show their support.
Caps can be sold at the beginning of the season, as they provide a stylish way to block out the sun, rain and other elements that crowds endure while cheering on their favorite teams.
Part of the new normal is wearing a face mask, so these will continue to be big sellers. Instead of a boring form of face protection, parents, coaches, athletes and cheerleaders can wear versions that put a name, logo and colors on display.
And, of course, there are branded T-shirts, a classic fan favorite. With options that are unisex, moisture-wicking, collared, long-sleeved, cropped and beyond, the possibilities are endless when it comes to promoting your sports organization!
