Custom Wrapped Drinkware: Turning Bottles and Tumblers Into Branded Artwork

A better way to design promo drinkware for events, gifts and employees

If you have been ordering promotional products for years now, you have probably ordered your fair share of drinkware. Laser engraved logos, one color screen prints, maybe a two color imprint if the budget allowed for it. Those options still have their place and I still recommend them often depending on the project and item. But there is a noticeable shift happening when it comes to how brands want to show up on drinkware.

More and more clients are asking how they can do something different. Not just put their logo on a bottle but actually create something that feels more like a designed product. That is where custom wrapped bottles and custom wrapped tumblers come into play.

Instead of treating drinkware like a blank surface for a logo, wrap decoration turns the entire piece into artwork. It completely changes how the product looks, how it is perceived and how often people actually want to use it.

The Limitation of Traditional Branding Methods

Laser engraving looks clean and premium, especially on stainless steel drinkware. It is a great option for executive gifts or when you want something subtle. Screen printing is cost effective and works well for large quantity orders.

The challenge with both is that you are working within a small imprint area. Usually one side of the bottle or tumbler. Maybe two sides if you want to get creative, but even then, it is still limited.

From a distance, most branded drinkware ends up looking very similar. A logo placed in the same general area, with minimal variation from one brand to the next.

That approach works but it does not give you much room to stand out.

What Full Wrap Drinkware Actually Means

Full wrap drinkware takes that limitation away. Instead of a small imprint area, you are working with the entire surface of the product. The artwork wraps around the bottle or tumbler creating a 360 degree or near 360 degree design depending on the shape.

This opens the door to full color graphics, gradients, patterns and designs that go far beyond a simple logo placement. You are no longer confined to one spot on the product. You are designing the entire piece.

One important thing to note is that not every bottle can be wrapped perfectly from top to bottom. Due to curvature near the neck or base, some options are considered near full wrap. That being said, the branding coverage is still significantly larger than traditional imprint methods and gives you far more creative flexibility.

Bottles Versus Tumblers and How They Are Used

Both bottles and tumblers work really well for full wrap decoration but they tend to show up in slightly different environments.

Fully wrapped bottles are often used for more on the go settings. Think fitness programs, outdoor events, wellness initiatives, or employee welcome kits. These are items people bring with them so your branding travels with them.

From a design standpoint, bottles are great for more continuous artwork. Patterns, scenic designs or full color brand themes that wrap seamlessly around the product.

Fully wrapped tumblers tend to live more in office environments. They sit on desks, in meeting rooms, or at home workstations. Because of that, they are seen consistently throughout the day not just by the user, but by others around them.

Both options are strong, it just comes down to where you want the product to live and how you want it to be used.

This Is Where Branding Turns Into Design

The biggest shift with full wrap drinkware is how brands approach the design itself. Instead of asking where the logo should go, the question becomes what do we want this product to look like as a whole.

This is where things start to get fun.

We have seen clients create seasonal designs, limited edition artwork, and even full storytelling concepts that wrap around the entire bottle or tumbler. It becomes less about marking the product and more about creating something people actually enjoy using.

Once clients see a mockup of what is possible, it usually changes the direction of the project pretty quickly. You go from a simple logo placement to something that feels much more intentional and thought out.

Retail Brands Take It Even Further

If you want to take things up another level, combining full wrap decoration with retail brand drinkware is where things really start to stand out.

One option we have been doing more of lately is working with Owala. They already have strong brand recognition and a really well-designed product to begin with. When you add custom full wrap artwork to it (especially on the 24 oz Freesip and 32 oz Freesip) it starts to feel much more like retail merchandise rather than a typical promotional item

This is especially effective for higher end gifting, employee appreciation, or events where you want the product to feel elevated without losing the creative flexibility.

When Full Wrap Makes the Most Sense

Not every project needs full wrap decoration and I am always upfront about that with clients. If the goal is to keep things simple and cost effective, traditional imprint methods still work great.

Where full wrap really shines is when you want to make an impression.

It works extremely well for brand launches, rebrands, trade shows where you want something eye-catching on your table, and corporate gifts where you want people to react when they receive it.

It is also a strong option for events that already have a defined visual identity. Instead of trying to fit that identity into a small imprint area, you can carry it across the entire product.

A Few Design Considerations From Experience

There are a few things to keep in mind when designing for full wrap drinkware.

Because the product is cylindrical, you are not seeing the entire design at once. That means placement of key elements matters. You want to make sure logos or important text are positioned in a way that they are visible during normal use.

Smaller text can also be tricky depending on the product and the curvature, so keeping things bold and readable tends to work best.

This is also where working with someone who has done these projects before helps. We spend a lot of time adjusting artwork slightly to make sure it translates well from a flat design to a wrapped product.

Make the Product the Branding

The way I usually explain this to clients is simple. Instead of asking how your logo will look on a product, start thinking about how the product itself can represent your brand.

That shift in thinking is what makes full wrap drinkware so effective.

When done right, it does not feel like promotional merchandise. It feels like something you would actually buy. And that is what ultimately drives usage, visibility and overall value.
